In this country, the United States of America, we have many rules and laws to protect the freedom of our citizens, even the ones in jail. One of these is the seperation of Church and state. This is a very good law. Do you know why it exists? Think back to the Holy Roman Empire. Or more recently, the Taliban. Seperation of Church and state was written so that there could be no religious rule of a state. Oh, and by the way, "state" in the sense of "seperation of Church and state" is defined as an area of land with its own population, territoy, and government. It does not necessarily mean state of the unioin, such as Wyoming. It can mean an entire country. So yes, the United Sates is a state.
So back to my original rant. Seperation of Church and state means that no one religion can rule a state. It has nothing to do with Christmas decorations at City Hall or the Ten Commandments in public schools. I honestly don't think that the Founders of this nation got together and said, "You know, the Ten Commandments are good, but I don;t think that they should be posted in schools. And while we're at it, no prayer either." Fuck that. I say if you are religious and want to pray, you pray all you want. Why should you be banned from praying from 8am to 3pm, Monday through Friday? What happened to freedom of religion. Doesn't that mean you can worship freely? Why don't people read that one literally?
I heard on the news that in Breaux, Louisiana in a park NEAR A ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH has a nativity scene. And the ACLU says it shouldn't be there. "It could offend people of other religions." Fuck that. These people of "other religions" didn't know anything Christian offended them until assholes like the ACLU started pointing it out to them. Sure, being Jewish around Christmas might suck, what with all the TV specials, the crappy music, the malls jam-packed & decorated, cheap-ass lights everywhere, and, oh yeah, Jesus. I don't think too many Jews would drive past a nativity scene in a park and say "Oh my Yahweh! Not Jesus, Mary, Joseph and those three guys! I feel so cheap and used!" No. They drive by and look forward. Like everyone else. Christians hardly look at the decorations anymore. Hell, most Christians don't care about their religion except during this month. By January 1, it'll all be gone. Except on my street. My neighbor's lights will be up till Halloween when they finally realize they're still up, but they figure, "what's another two months?"
